So I shot some reference tonight. Reference = video of me acting out the scene. I'm going to piece the best bits together and make a killer scene. Well that's the hope anyway.

I get it already!

So my training has indicated to me that when doing a dialog shot one must listen to the dialog over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.... well you get it. Well that's what I did last night. I am going to listen to it a few more times today. Animators have to become intimately familiar with the dialog in order to really get into the characters' heads. The next step is to map out the dialog to find out where the accents are.

11 Second Club

I just wanted to let everyone know I am going to try something out this month. I am going to be putting in an entry into the 11 second club monthly contest. They give you a sound clip that is 11 seconds long. This one has two characters and is pretty dynamic. I am going to attempt to keep a daily video journal about animating and if you're lucky you may get to see me animating as well although I can tell you it's not glamorous or exciting to see the creation process. Hopefully I will be able to take you from conception to completion.

Here is my thought process on a potential avenue of attack.
Week 1 - Idea formulation and planning.
Week 2 - Reference and Blocking
Week 3 - 2nd Pass of Blocking
Week 4 - Refine and Polish.

So I finished the second quarter at Animationmentor.com. I'm pretty pleased with my work thus far. I think I could probably do better with more time, but with work and a marriage to split my attentions this is the best I could do with the time I was able to give it.

Here's the 3rd stage of cleanup. I didn't upload the revised blocking stage cause it wasn't that much different. I've still got a few bits to tweak here and there, but I'm actually happy with how this one is turning out.

Sticky Door Blocking

This is the initial pass for my Sticky Door assignment. The final animation for the quarter. I had 4 other things to choose from but this one sounded the most fun. Others were throwing a ball, pushing a heavy weight... boring. I'm pretty close to my frame limit though, 250 frames max.

Pole Jump

This was the second assignment for the second quarter. Again choosing from a list of things to do I chose a pole jump. I find it very difficult to come up with something completely original. There are alot of great animations for this out there already and not mimicking them is a challenge.

180 Turn Around

This was the first assignment for the second quarter. Out of 3 options I chose to have "Ballie" do a turn around. Not satisfied with just stepping as he turns around I chose to do a strange little kick turn. My reference video was fun to shoot and I'm sure I appeared very strange in the parking lot as I was "performing."'
